The National Athletics Championship ended on an eventful note on Friday when Solomom Afful qualified for the World Junior Athletics Championship to be staged in Barcelona next month.
The organisers of the competition placed the Kumasi based sprinter behind national sprinter Ashaad Agyapong in the men's final 200m race, and that yielded dividends with Afful running his personal best (PB) to secure qualification.
Meanwhile, evergreeen sprinter Vida Anim and Ignisious Gaisah won the women's 200m final and the men's long jump event respectively.
Two new national athletes based in the USA, Sellaise Lumax and Yvonne Amegashie, also took gold in the men's 800m and the women's 400m respectively. This was the first that the duo were competing for the country.
Two javelin throwers made the qualification mark for the African Athletics Championship which is due to be staged in Porto Novo, Benin from June 26th.
