The Ghana Olympic Committee has increased the prize money for medalist at the 2012 London Olympic Games by 100%.
The leader of Ghanas delegation to the Olympics, Nii Adote Din Barimah (I) made this known to Ghanaian athletes currently camping at Plymouth and Cardiff over the weekend.
According to the Chef de Mission, the incentive is to reward hard working athletes for their service to the nation at major international competitions.
He explained that the arrangement came about due to a recommendation by the Maputo Probe Committee which was set up to investigate the Ghanas participation in the 2012 All African Games.
Accordingly, a gold medalist at the Olympics will receive $10,000; silver medalist takes home $5,000 while a bronze medal is entitled to $2,500.
This is in sharp contrast to previous years when athletes were entitled to only $5, 000 for winning a gold medal, $2,500 for a silver medal and $1,500 for a bronze medal.
Meanwhile, www.liquidsportsghana.com can confirm that all camping allowances for both athletes and officials have been paid.
