Elvis Afriyie- Ankrah, Minister of Youth and Sports has brushed off media allegations about a purported bribery scandal against him as false, baseless and irresponsible.
The Minister told GNA Sports that “The allegations claiming I took over 40,000 dollars from a particular travel and tour agency to hand them the contract to airlift supporters to Brazil is completely baseless, false and irresponsible.
“My initial reaction to the story was to treat it with the absolute contempt it deserved. But having come to the understanding that these false allegations will not go away, I find the need to set the records straight.”
He said “I was not part of the committee that took applications from various organizations and selected the best three to handle the airlifting of supporters to the World Cup. I have in no way been involved in influencing which of the three gets what.
“I will like to put on record that, I have not been directly or indirectly involved in fronting for any particular organization and let alone take money to promote their interest. I reserve the right to pursue every available option to clear my name; including legal.”
Afriyie-Ankrah has played an instrumental role in Ghana’s qualification to the World Cup in Brazil; the Black Stars’ third in succession.
Ghana seeks to better her lot at the global gathering of 32 teams to remain Africa’s best performers at the World Cup in recent times.
The Black Stars are in Group G alongside Germany, USA and Portugal and begin their campaign in Natal on June 16.
