The Ghana Olympic Committee has announced Ghana’s team for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad which will be held in Rio from 5th-21st August.
The team comprises 16 first-time Olympians, the sport of athletics also produced 11 qualifiers to join 2 swimmers (Kaya Forson and Abeiku Jackson), 1 weightlifter (Christian Amoah), 1 judoka (Szandra Szogedi), and 1 boxer named Abdul Wahid Omar.
Omar who will join Team Ghana was one of Ghana’s two bronze medalists from the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
From athletics, the team comprises six individual qualifiers: Flings Owusu-Agyapong (100m), Janet Amponsah (200m), John Ampomah (Javelin), Emmanuel Dasor (200m), Alex Amankwah (800m), and Sean Safo-Antwi (100m) and the 15th-placed women’s 4x100m relay team to be selected from Gemma Acheampong, Beatrice Gyaman, Dorcas Gyimah, Persis William-Mensah, and Akua Obeng-Akrofi.
