The government has revealed that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has concluded investigations on embattled former Ghana Football Association (GFA) boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Information Minister, Puis Enam Hadzide on Thursday, the government expects the docket to be presented to the state’s chief prosecutor soon.
“Criminal investigations have been concluded by the Police CID and we expect that a docket will soon be presented to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice for advice,” the statement said.
The statement was reacting to concerns raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) about the status of the investigations locally; since the world football governing body had concluded theirs and had handed a lifetime ban to Mr.Nyantakyi.
“FIFA's decision to ban Mr. Nyantakyi after months of rigorous investigations raises serious questions about the involvement of President Akufo-Addo in the bribery scandal and also brings to the fore, once again, the need for the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to inform Ghanaians about the status of their investigations into this scandal which has tarnished the image of Ghanaians and Ghana,” the NDC wrote on Tuesday.
In their response the government added that it was “the President who caused for criminal investigations to commence into this matter following his viewing of the -Number 12 video documentary.”
Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Dame also told Myjoyonline Thursday that FIFA relied on government’s work before it announced the lifetime ban.
Nyantakyi not confidante of Akufo-Addo
The statement also rejected claims by the NDC that Nyantakyi is a close confidante of the President Akufo-Addo.
According to the statement, “it is untrue claims made by the NDC that Mr. Nyantakyi is a close confidante of the President. The President has had a professional working relationship with the then President of the GFA, just as he has several other persons occupying positions of public interest.”
Number 12
Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas premiered his documentary titled Number 12 in June which detailed corruption in Ghana football.
The focus was on the FA boss although referees and other sports officials were also implicated.

Heeeeh Nana brown Nyantekyi. U c this world. Life lesson
Nyantakyi himself said he is a close confidant of the president and for that matter Nana Addo was in his pocket. These are not NDC words. It has to take a great deal by Ghanaians to bring the president out of Nyantakyi's pocket. And as at now is still not clear if he has been recaptured.
What are the people of Ghana expecting? That the CID will say the president was involved. Like seriously? Who is the CID in the first place? Who’s job is the CID doing, I mean who gave that CID boss her job? Look all these things it’s only God that can help us now. We live in a country where only some few groups of people even from the same family are chopping our money left right center just because we cued on the sun to vote for them. They do what ever they like, enrich themselves and their cronies and all of us sit down and watch them. While majority of the people die of of hunger and poverty. Until we us people begin to hold our leaders accountable, they will continue taking us for granted and be enriching themselves at our expense
Ah,oyiwaa....THE CLEARING AGENT AND HIS TEAM HAVE SPOKEN ..THIS NPP GOVERNMENT, GHANAIANS AND GOD IS WATCHING YOU THESE ***barred word*** .
Good news is that we haven't heard of any sort of Bus Branding, Embraer Jet, Kanazoe Fordism etc etc. If anybody including the NDC has anything contrary let them show forth... Propaganda wunt win any election ever again !
They're all ***barred word*** and armed robbers masquerading as politicians and duping Ghana whilst unemployment and excruciating poverty are killing Ghanaians.... NYANTAKYI didn't operate alone.... We've regretted voting npp into power.... They've collapsed seven banks... They yet to collapse more.... They've messed up NG bank and gold Coast securities... Ghanaians affected by npp are all going to campaign zealously for the return of the ndc in 2020 elections......
I was surprise with the deputy information minister this morning on Kwame Nkrumah Tikese programme this morning that he checked from CID yesterday when Kofi Adams memo came out to know they have finish with the docket for Kwasi Nyantakyi's investigation, so all round the information ministers were sleeping until Kofi Adam's memo came up before waking up from their sleep to check, what type of people they are handling things in our country. Look at the info giving to the president on the KNUST case before the president form an IMC, and look at what the KING OF ASHANTI turned it down, so this one too is it a miss led? Thanks,
No one can touch nyantakyi, he will spill the beans. This is just red herring.
Kudos to kofi adams, if he has not brought this issue up they would have still sat on the so called investigation. The ndc should still pressed them to release the full investigation result to the public. I suspect they are just making this statement for this issue to sway people minds away from the truth.
