Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan was a Special Guest at the opening and closing ceremony of the 2020 Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games.

“It is always refreshing to address the university community especially on such occasion, where this year GUSA Games can be touted as the most successfully organized and patronized”, Madam Lydia Alhassan said during the 2020 GUSA game under the theme: "Integrating Sports into Academia for Youth Empowerment and Development”.

She commended all winners from the eleven  Universities that participated in the games for their determination and unrelenting spirit.

“…better luck to all who were not successful. If the opportunity for you is available, the 27th GUSA games are yours for the taking,” she added.

She also disclosed that an application has been filed for funds to be released for the completion of the UG stadium.

She urged the organizers to champion a comprehensive Sports policy on the lines of the University of Ghana Policy on Admission for Athlete Students (UG-PAAS) in all University campuses to unearth and improve talents.

“Kudos to the Co-Chairs of the Local Organizing Committee, Prof. Samuel Offei and Dr. Bello Bella Bitigu who led their hard working members to achieve this feat. They gave the University a World Olympics atmosphere. I applaud the executives of the Ghana Universities Sports Association for a yeoman’s job. What we see is fruits of their hard work.”

University of Cape Coast (UCC) emerged overall champions of the 26th edition of the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) games held at the University of Ghana campus after clinching twenty-eight (28) gold, twenty-three (23) silver and thirteen (13) bronze medals.

Followed closely was the University of Education, Winneba with fifteen (15) gold in second position and University for Development Studies in third with thirteen (13) gold medals.

Host University of Ghana bagged twelve (12) gold medals while Ghana Institute of Journalism and the rest failed to win a single medal.
