Ghanaian Players Star in Bad Conditions Abroad

In England:

Portsmouth claimed a priceless victory over Liverpool at the South Coast and would-be Ghanaian Kevin-Prince Boateng was the fulcrum of the Pompey side as they picked up a morale boosting 2-0 win over Liverpool.

John Mensah scored his first career goal for Sunderland as they lost in a see-sawing 4-3 contest to Manchester City at the Eastlands. Mensah pulled a goal back on the 16th minute for the Black Cats and was substituted in 76th minute. Manchester United were handed a shock 3-0 defeat by Fulham at Craven Cottage.

John Paintsil was an integral part of a well composed Fulham defence which put the Red Devils in check. In the Coca-cola Championship, Patrick Agyemang earned a starting role for Queens Park Rangers which drew one-all with Sheffield United at Loftus Road Park.

Elsewhere in the League One, Ali Fuseini’s Millwall dominated play at The Valley in a thrilling 4-4 away draw with Charlton Athletic. Lloyd Sam played 86 minutes for Charlton whiles Ali Fuseini enjoyed the full 90 minutes.

Jo Osei Kuffuor was out of action over the weekend for Bristol Rovers who lost 2-0 away to Tranmere Rovers at the Prenton Park. But fellow Ghanaian international Chris Dickson took his place in attack and was subbed just after the hour mark.

France:

Nations Cup-bound Asamoah Gyan played a key role in Stade Rennes 1-0 over Paris-Saint Germain.

Gyan and Ghana-born Norwegian international Alexander Tettey combined very well on the 40th minute to help Guinean international Ishmael Bangoura grab the opener at the Stade de Route de Lorient. Gyan was replaced in 77th minute by Jimmy Briand.

Nice mustered courage and staged an inspiring show to pick an away point at Grenoble.

Enock Adu Kofi gained selection into the Nice first team.

Jordan Ayew made his second Ligue 1 appearance for Olympique Marseille over the weekend by replacing Fabrice Abriel on the 83rd minute in the 0-0 stalemate with giants St. Etienne.

Moussa Narry could not gain selection into the Auxerre first team squad as they forged a third draw in a roll in the Ligue 1 with Toulouse.

Germany:

Hans Adu-Sarpei was an unused substitute for Bayern Leverkusen which won 3-2 at the BayArena to Borussia Monchengladbach. Relegation threatened VFL Stuttgart shattered the ambitious of TSG Hoffenheim which a 3-1 win at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Isaac Vorsah played at the right side of midfield for the Hoffs who are still without Ghana striker Prince Tagoe. Nurnberg are all set for a return into the German second tier after abysmal streak of performances displayed in the first half of the season. They were thumped 3-0 by in-form FC Cologne.

Isaac Boakye’s 62 minutes of action did not do any good to the newly promoted side and was replaced by Greek international Angelo Charisteas. In the Bundesliga II, Charles Takyi played 62 minutes for St. Pauli whose trip to SC Paderborn 07 was fruitless after they were beaten 2-1.

Takyi was replaced on the 62nd minute. Last season Bundesliga I contenders Karlsruhe handed Spvgg Greuther Furth a surprise package after destroying them by a four goals to one. Godfred Aduobe played full throttle for Karlsruhe.

Italy:

Sulley Muntari was withdrawn after 26 minutes in Inter Milan's 1-0 win over Lazio at the San Siro. In the Serie B, struggling Brescia nicked a narrow 1-0 win over enterprising Modena side. AS Roma loanee Ahmed Ampimah Ciro Barusso was introduced on the 90th minute.

Holland:

Most of Eredivisie games scheduled for this Sunday were called off due to the freezing weather conditions.

But on Saturday, Fred Benson scored the fourth for RKC Waalwijk just after the break when they took a major stride to get themselves out of the relegation net.

Anthony Obodai was an unused sub for the home side and Emmanuel Boakye was missing in action for Sparta Rotterdam.

Others:

Derek Owusu-Boateng gelled in midfield for Getafe who upset Sevilla 1-2 Stadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Mubarak Wakaso played in midfield for Elche in the Segunda division as they failed their test against Girona 2-3.

Former Asante Kotoko playmaker William Tiero drew Academica Coimbra on level terms on the 11th minute in their 4-3 loss to Nacional in the Portuguese League.

In the second-tier league in Portuguese, Ishmael Yartey impressed for Beira Mar when they demolished Aves 3-0. Bernard Yao Kumordzi could not help Panionios secure the needed three points as they lost 2-1 to Kavala.
