Zambia left back Emmanuel Mbola becomes the second player under-17 years to play at the Africa cup of Nations.

As of Wednesday, January 13, 2010, Mbola was exactly 16 years, 8 months and 3 days. He will be preceded by Gabonese striker Nzighou Chiva, who made his debut on January 23, 2000 in Kumasi, at 16 years, 3 months and 30 days. He scored the only goal for his team against South Africa, winning by 3 goals to 1.

Pierre Aubameyang and Abedi Pele are currently two happy fathers. They each have two of their sons in the national team of their country at the Orange Africa Cup of Nations, Angola 2010.

Pierre Aubameyang was a member of the Gabonese squad at the CAN in 1994 held in Tunisia, playing at the quarter-finals, lost two years later with shots on goal against Tunisia and South Africa.

His two sons are incidentally also attackers. Willy, the eldest plays for Eupen in Belgium, and the youngest, Pierre-Emerick for French Ligue 1 side, Lille.

Abedi Pele was a member of the victorious Ghana squad at Libya in 1982, but was unavailable for the final against Cote d’Ivoire 10 years in Senegal due to suspension. Abedi received a second yellow card during the semi-final clash against Nigeria.

His eldest son, Ibrahim, who is 22-years of age is on the roster of Egyptian giants, Zamalek. The midfielder was a member of the Black Stars squad at the maiden edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) held in Cote d’Ivoire in March 2009.

Andre, his second son was the captain of the Ghana U-20 side that emerged victorious at the FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Egypt three months ago. Contracted to French giants Olympique Marseille, he is currently on loan to Arles Avignon in the French second division.

They were there in 1996

Fourteen years after their debut at Africa Cup of Nations, they are still on the ground.

Cameroon defender, Rigobert Song, midfielder Ahmed Hassan of Egypt, Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingson and Mozambican striker Manuel “Tico Tico” Bucuane were all at South Africa 1996.

Two of them, Hassan and “Tico Tico” wear the captain's armband. Song gave up his six months ago to striker Samuel Eto'o.

The Mozambican is the oldest and he turns 37 in August. Ahmed Hassan is in his 35th birthday, Song is 34 years and Kingston is nearing his 32 birthday.

Song was in action against Gabon few days ago, his 34th consecutive appearance at the finals and has lasted the entire duration in all the matches.
