Team of the Week: Ghanaian Players Abroad

Ghanasoccernet.com’s Akyereko Frimpong-Manson picks his team of the week after some of the European leagues ended.

England:

A Jermaine Beckford’s 75th minute goal for ten-man Everton capped a disappointing season for Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea as they lost by a goal-to-nil in the final day of the season.

Michael Essien was substituted by teenager Josh McEachran after 78 minutes.

Richard Kingson’s Blackpool were unable to beat the drop on the final day of the English Premiership as they suffered a disappointing 4-2 defeat at the Old Trafford.

The 32-year-old sat on the bench.

John Pantsil probably watched his final Fulham game from the stands at the Craven Cottage when when Arsenal fought from behind to draw two-all with his Fulham side which finished with ten men.

Teenage striking sensation Akwasi Asante sat on the bench for Birmingham City which also got relegated at the final day of the season loosing 1-2 at Tottenham Hotspurs.

Striker Asamoah Gyan returned from injury to play 72 minutes for Sunderland and helped them to condemn relegated West Ham United to a 3-0 defeat at the Upton Park.

Defender John Mensah was out of the Sunderland first team.

Germany:

Hans Adu-Sarpei played the first 43 minutes for Schalke 04 which lifted the Pokal Cup after thrashing Duisburg 5-0.

Italy:

Kwadwo Asamoah helped Udinese to book their place in next season’s Uefa Champions League qualifying rounds after playing out a pulsating 0-0 draw with AC Milan.

Asamoah lasted the entire game for Udinese while Kevin-Prince Boateng also played full throttle for AC Milan.

But Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu warmed the bench.

Sensational 16-year-old Nana Addo Welbeck made his Serie A debut for relegated Brescia which held Fiorentina to a 2-2 draw.

Addo replaced Antonio Diamanti on the 61st minute.

Palermo were handed a reality check by Chievo Verona which thrashed them 3-1 at their on backyard.

Ghana youngster Afriyie Acquah suffered a back injury on the half hour mark and was replaced.

Spain:

The Spanish La Liga ended on satisfactory note for Ghanaian players as their clubs escaped relegation.

Real Sociedad and Getafe shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw that keeps both of them in the Primera Division.

Rasta-haired Derek Boateng played the full 90 minutes for Getafe.

Would-be Ghanaian Jeffery Sarpong was out of the Sociedad first team.

Wakaso Mubarak was a 55th minute substitute for Villarreal which lost 0-1 at Osasuna but qualified for the Uefa Champions League qualifying round.

Malaga lost 1-3 to Barcelona at their own backyard.

Ghanaian winger Quincy Owusu-Abeyie has reportedly cancelled his contract with the Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

In the Segunda Division, Black Stars defender Jonathan Mensah warmed the bench for Granada FC which is just three points away from promotion in the Spanish top flight.

France:

Winger Andre Ayew was on target for dethroned French Ligue 1 champions Olympique Marseille which drew 2-2 with Valenciennes.

Jordan Ayew was replaced in the 65th minute.

Abeiku Quansah was an unused substitute for OGC Nice which silenced ten-man Lorient 2-0.

Defender John Boye was on the bench for Stade Rennes which conceded two miserable goals to lose 0-2 at home to Nancy.

Holland:

Kwame Quansah was the architect FC Heracles Almelo’s consolation goal in their 2-1 at FC Groningen in the Europa League play-offs.

Egypt:

Samuel Afum and Godwin Attram both lasted the entire regulation time for Smouha FC which slipped to yet another defeat at FC El Gounah.

Samuel Ocran also did action for El Gounah.

Elsewhere at the Cairo International Stadium, former Asante Kotoko striker Kwabena Yaro played in El Entag El Harby pulsating 2-2 draw with giants Ahly.

Ukraine:

Dnipro continued their push for a European spot with a deserving scorelless stalemate at giants Shakhtar Donestk.

Ghana’s pseudo-winger Samuel Inkoom played full throttle for Dnipro.

Daniel Addo’s Zorya FC were unable to halt their slide as they lost 0-2 at home to Metalist Zaporozhye.

Serbia:

Ghana striker Prince Tagoe scored a 60th minute goal to help Partizan Belgrade move closer to the Serbian title when they hammered city-rivals Cukaricki 4-0.

Belgium:

Ghana’s Daniel Opare won his first major club title with Standard Liege when them brushed aside Westerlo 2-0 to lift the Belgian Cup.

Denmark:

Enock Adu Kofi capped a disappointing campaign this season by winning the Danish Cup after Nordsjaelland comprehensively defeated giants FC Midtjylland 3-2 on Sunday evening.

Turkey:

Dribbling-wizard Tawrick Jibril played the full 90 minutes for relegation-trapped Bucaspor which drew 3-3 with Kayserispor.
