Accra Hearts of Oak came from a goal down to beat Medeama SC 2-1 in their 11th week Glo Premier League game played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Hearts who suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of city rivals, Liberty Professionals at the same venue last Sunday, engaged their visitors in an end-to-end battle with each side creating scoring opportunities but the chances were blown off target.

However, Medeama in one of their regular raids into the Hearts goal area saw Louis Agyeman racing deep into the Hearts area and an attempt by Sammy Adjei to save the situation saw the goalie fouling Agyemang.

Referee O. B Amankwah whistled for a penalty for the visitors and Francis Coffie converting it for Medeama in the 22nd minute to silence the home team and fans.

Three minutes on, Hearts Mahatma Otoo secured the equalizer for the Phobians with a powerful shot from the edge of the ‘18’ yard box which hit the roof of the net before dropping behind the goal line to the amazement of all.

The equalising goal kept the two sides on a level pegging as at the close of the first half.

The second half saw both sides putting in more effort in a bid to snatch the winner, with Medeama's Hans Kwofie grabbing a perfect opportunity in the 60th minute for the leader, after he pounced on a pass from the midfield, and he chipped the ball over the head of on-rushing goal keeper Adjei, but saw his delivery missing the target narrowly to the relief of the home fans.

Hearts from that moment took a slight dominance of the game, making several incursions into the Medeama goal area but they were denied a goal by the solid defence of the visitors, whilst Medeama also had difficulties in going past the Hearts defence.

In the midst of the hostilities, it was Medeama's Richard Mpong who should have increased the tally for his side but was robbed off the ball by Hearts’ Kofi Agyare, whilst Ernest Ackon also messed up an opportunity for Hearts.

The game was, however, stalled for three minutes after Hearts banged in their second goal in the 70th minute after a quick free-kick by Douglas Nkrumah, who located Joe Tagoe and with a set-up for Attakorah Gyimah, for the former Berekum Arsenals lad to slot home the match winner.

The goal attracted the fury of players and officials of Medeama, who accused the referee of biased officiating but calm was restored for the game to proceed.

Medeama from then never gave up the fight, as they searched for the equalizer every minute of the rest of the game.

An opportunity eventually dropped on the path of substitute Karim Abubakari but who had his shot blocked by keeper Adjei to deny Medeama a late minute equalizer as the game rolled into extra time minutes to give the Hearts faithfuls a sigh of relieve.
