Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan could not complete the Black Stars training session on Thursday and had to be rested as a result of a knock he picked up in the game against Botswana.
According to team officials, the Al Ain marksman was withdrawn from training as a precautionary measure so that he could be allowed to recover as soon as possible.
Gyan is being observed in the meantime, team doctor Dr Percy Annan said in a statement. He suffered a knock on Tuesday on his ankle and the pain still persists.
He is being given the necessary treatment to make sure he returns to fitness in due course.
The four-time African champions play their second game against Mali on Saturday.
