FC Dnipro midfielder Derek Boateng is likely to escape a lengthy ban for getting sent off for assaulting an opponent over the weekend.
The Ghana international revealed his moment of ‘madness’ was as a result of a racial comment passed by his opponent during his side’s league win over Vorskla Poltava.
Boateng says he was called a ‘Black Monkey, prompting his reaction of pushing his opponent to ground just after being shown a second yellow for an earlier rash challenge.
Fears of a lengthy ban and fine that usually go with such violent conduct has been allayed as his club aims to put up a staunch defence of the case with the Ukrainian FA, GHANAsoccernet.com understands.
Officials of Dnipro will be looking to take up the issue of racial abuse at a yet to be determined date for the hearing.
Boateng, 29, will thus receive a two-match ban in the worst case scenario but the Vorskla player said to have racially abused the Ghanaian might not be that lucky to escape with a mild ban if proven guilty.
