Ghana U-20 coach Orlando Wellington says he wants his foreign based players in camp at least 10-days ahead of the African Cup qualifier in July.
Wellington is bent on restoring the Black Satelites back to the glory days following last year’s disappointment where the team was bundled out of the competition after just the group stage.
Thirty local players have been called to camp to prepare for a friendly tournament in May but the former Heart of Lions coach is already looking ahead at life after the eight-team tournament in South Africa.
“This South African tournament is good but we need to look beyound it – we are focused on the qualifiers,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
“That is the main priority and therefore anything we do now is in preparation towards the qualifiers.
“For now we will be working with the local players and then later we will bring in the foreign-based players.
“I would like to have the foreign players in camp at least ten days before our qualifier.
“It disrupts our preparations a lot when they (foreign-based players) come in late and it is something we really want to avoid this time.”
Ghana will play the winner of the preliminary round match between Mozambique and Uganda in their quest to qualify for the 2013 African Youth Championships.
The Black Stars made history as the first and only African side to have won the U-20 World Cup in 2009.
The team prior to their World Cup feat had won the Wafu and African Cup in that same year.
