AC Milan say they will have to wait to find out whether Sulley Muntari has been chosen to play for Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations before deciding whether to give him playing time before the Christmas break.
Muntari has returned to training with the Italian giants after recovering from a thigh injury that kept him out of action for three weeks.
Ghana coach will name his squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday but Muntari's place in uncertain in the Black Stars squad.
With the prospect of the midfielder leaving for the tournament in South Africa for four weeks if Ghana reaches the final, AC Milan could miss one of their key players if he Muntari is chosen by the Black Stars coach.
Giving Muntari playing time before the Cup of Nations and then leaving them after Christmas means that AC Milan must look for a suitable replacement for the Ghanaian.
AC Milan Massimiliano Allegri says he will decide on Muntari's playing time after Ghana coach has named his squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
"I don't know if Muntari will play at the African Nations Cup. We will see later." AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri said.
"Early in the season we knew it he was an important player for us and it is always the case.
"We need to see if Muntari is convened for the Africa Cup of Nations. It has been six months since he played. Before I speak, lets wait and see what happens."
Muntari suffered a knee injury while playing with friends in Ghana in the summer but returned to training last month.
He suffered another setback in training three weeks ago with the thigh injury.
