NDC Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central Constituency, Hon. Rachel Nana Adwoa Appoh has congratulated Hasaacas Ladies for winning the maiden edition of the national Women’s League over the weekend.

After a 5-game wait, Hasaacas Ladies finally overcame Fabulous Ladies as they earned a 2-1 win against their rivals to lift the first national Women's League.

The meeting was their sixth after Fabulous had enjoyed victories in all their previous meetings before the Saturday's final.

For their victory, Hasaacas lifted the trophy plus a cash prize of GH˘2,000 with the runners-up picking GH˘1,000.

Both sides finished tops from the Northern and Southern Zones in the league.

Below is her Full Statement:

“At long last, the much touted Ghana National Women’s Football League (maiden edition) has come to a successful end. As a Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central Constituency and a member of the parliamentary select committee on Youth and Sports; I congratulate Hasaacas Ladies for winning the league.

“I further commend the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for putting up this competition for the women in the football fraternity.

“Organizing a women’s football league will not only serve as a ground for selecting players into the various national teams but also create an avenue for women to discover their talents and subsequently realizing their dreams, as professional footballers.

“My expectation is that this Women’s Football League will be sustained and possibly create divisions just like that of the men’s league.

“The sustenance of the league and subsequent creation of divisions in the near future will also grant a platform for entrepreneurs to enter into partnership with the government agencies and other identifiable organization for business.

“Over the years up until recently the Black Queens, the senior national women’s team had been the only team that represented Ghana in both national and continental competitions.

“However, the emergence of the Black Princess and Black Maidens have put Ghana under the international football telescope.

“The recent performance of the Black Maidens at the FIFA under-17 women’s world cup, Azerbaijan 2012, was attained without a competitive Women Football League like what we witnessed over the weekend.

“The sustenance of the league will provide a viable pool for recruitment into the various national women’s football teams. I want to use this medium to entreat the team management committee members of the various women national teams to identify talented players for future national assignments for Ghana.

“I do admit that the success of the league was on the shoulders of some individuals in terms of finance and technical direction. I therefore, appeal to organizations to sponsor the women’s football league as part of their corporate social responsibilities.

“I further appeal to the team owners to name their clubs such that a common person on the street could identify him or herself with the team for a massive supporting base.

“Finally, my thumb up to all the teams that competed in the league and hope they will put up a formidable front for the next edition.

Congratulations once again to Hasaacas Ladies”.
