Local manager of Ghana striker Dominic Adiyiah has reacted angrily to Sellas Tetteh’s assertions that his agent made a wrong career choice when he signed for AC Milan three years ago.

The 23-year-old joined the Italian giants in 2010 after impressing heavily at the 2009 FIFA World Youth Championship where he won the Best Player and Top scorer awards at the world showpiece.

But the Arsenal Kyiv striker was shut from first team duties in his two year-stay at the club. The country’s Under-20 coach questioned the decision of the then youngster to sign for a big club like AC Milan as he could have started from a smaller club to project his potential.

But the player’s local agent, Desmond Frimpong, has dismissed the assertion describing it as a ploy to discredit the player.

“I think Sellas Tetteh is totally wrong to make such claims. What is he talking about? I don’t want to be extremely harsh but it’s just unfortunate,” Frimpong told GHANAsoccernet.com

“It was big windfall for the player and so you can’t say that it was a wrong move.

“In any case when he was appointed as the head coach of the Rwanda national team, how many matches did he win. None. Do we then tell him that he made a wrong career choice?

“I don’t think such comments should come from coaches like him. Players like Adiyiah need encouragement and not try to discredit him for all what he’s done for this country.

“He could have made a big impact at AC Milan but for the change of the coach who signed him.

“So you can’t come and demoralize the player but telling him he made a wrong career choice and try to paint the picture as if he’s finished.”

He added: “ No African or Ghanaian player will ignore the chance to sign for a big club like AC Milan.

“Even though he didn’t get the chance to play, the move benefited him financially.

“In any case many, many players including Jerome Boateng, Samuel Osei-Kufour and Michael Essien all went through such phases in their careers at some point.

“After all what Essien did for Chelsea, he was deemed not good enough by Roberto Di Matheo and had to be rescued by a bigger club like Real Madrid.

“Does that mean he made bad career move when he joined Chelsea? He should spare some of us.”

Adiyiah was an influential member of the Black Satellites squad that won Africa’s first ever gold in the FIFA World Youth Championship in 2009.
