Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah could deploy Kevin-Prince Boateng as a striker at the 2014 World Cup after his German club Schalke experimented the midfielder as an attacker.

The move by Schalke could also help coach Appiah to consider pairing prolific attacker Asamoah Gyan with Boateng in next years tournament in Brazil.

The partnership between the two players provided Ghana with the consolation goal in their 2-1 defeat to Egypt in the 2014 World Cup playoff in Cairo last month.

Gyan made light work of two defenders on the right before crossing for Boateng to tap in to give the Black Stars the consolation in the 19 November game.

The coach of the Bundesliga side Jens Keller used the Ghana international as a striker in their match against Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend.

Keller thinks that apart of his prowess of playing in all the positions in midfield, Boateng could be effective as a striker.

To provide Boateng in the storm, is always an idea worth it, he can play as a typical striker and also as a supporting striker, Keller told Sportal.

With the possibility of Boateng being used as a striker in matches for Schalke, Ghana coach Appiah could be forced into considering that option at the World Cup.

That is because with his midfield rich with talented players like Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Kwadwo Asamoah, Andre Ayew and Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, freeing Boateng from that role will not cause the Black Stars any damage.

The decision will rather strengthen the Ghana attack with Abdul Majeed Waris and Jordan Ayew also in support to make the squad tighter for the global tournament.
