Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has made a U-turn on long-held belief that only players featuring consistently will feature for the Black Stars.
The gaffer now says he will consider inactive players for the 2014 World Cup, despite being known for his opposing stance. "Its important to have players who are actually playing but well seriously consider those who may also not get team play at their clubs," he told the state-owned Uniiq FM.
Some may argue that this was always coming, after the coach's consistent selection of defender Samuel Inkoom, for example. The coach has however always swerved the issue of his apparent inconsistency until now.
This new regime will enliven the debate in the lead up to the World Cup in June. For some of Ghana's more experienced players having a tough time with getting time at their clubs, this will be welcome news.
