21-year-old class III referee, Kyei Andoh, met his untimely death in the Western Region after home fans pounced on him for awarding a last-minute penalty to the away team, Ghanasportsonline can confirm.
Referee Kyei Andoh, who is a teacher in Boodea in the Western Region, died in the hospital after he could not recover from bruises he sustained from the mob attack post-match.
After hours of vomiting blood as a result of the injuries he sustained during the attack, referee Andoh could not survive despite attempts by the Hospital medical team to save him.
Referee Andoh officiated a division Two League game between Najoe United and Gold Stars which ended 2-1 in favour of the away team, Gold Stars.
The supporters of the home team in the absence of police personnel took the law into their own hands and beat the referee mercilessly citing poor officiating to buttress their sinister deeds.
"It was so so sickening and sad, I went to commission a match elsewhere, got wind of the incident and passed by. It is so sad, the young referee is dead. An eye witness and a match commissioner Retired referee T.K Aggrey told Walas of Asempa Fm.
