The Ghana FA has called for the immediate submission of the preliminary report on the circumstances leading to the death of a young referee in the country’s third tier.

GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi paid has a glowing tribute to the young referee describing him as ‘the association’s most promising up and coming referees’

Assistant referee Kwame Andoh Kyei died of his injuries on Friday four days after he was attacked by irate fans during a league match in the Western Region.

A delegation from the West Region Football Association (WRFA) visited the family in Prestea on Tuesday of the deceased to sympathise on Tuesday even though the GFA has been in touch with the referee’s family since his death.

Kyei, 21, suffered injuries after he was beaten up during the second division match between Gold Stars and Naa Joe United in Bordie last week Sunday.

He died on Friday after being rushed to the hospital earlier in the day because of the injuries.

Doctors are yet to fully establish the cause of his death but the WRFA has been asked to present its preliminary report by 5pm on Tuesday for the necessary action to be taken while commiserating with the family.

“It was with profound regret that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) learnt of the tragic death of referee Kwame Andoh Kyei over the weekend,” Nyantakyi wrote in the press statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers and those of the wider GFA membership are with his mother Sophia Nketiah, his father Kwadwo Appiah, his family and his wide circle of friends at this sad time.

“He was regarded as one of the association’s most promising up and coming referees and was highly respected by his peers.

“The GFA has been in touch with the family of referee Kyei since his passing to assure them of the federation’s support in this most trying of times.”

Meanwhile, the GFA has ordered the WRFA’s Executive Committee to provide the full facts of what their preliminary investigation into the events surrounding Mr. Kyei’s death has revealed by 5pm on Tuesday.

A meeting of key stakeholders will be called by the GFA after receiving the report to examine the immediate action to be taken while the police continue with their investigations.
