Ghana's Medeama SC have continued their impressive run in the Confederations Cup by overcoming Zesco United in their first leg clash.
The Mauve and Yellow, who are Ghana’s last remaining hopefuls for continental glory this season have been the surprise package of the tournament.
And they stuck to this tag, as they overcame the Zambian club in the first leg of their 1/8th match, courtesy goals from Nathaniel Asamoah and Michael Helegbe.
Nathaniel Asamoah broke the deadlock as early as the 10th minute, with a well-taken finish. Zesco looked to find the equalizer immediately but failed to find the back of the net.
The hosts did likewise, with a barrage of attacks which proved futile. The second goal finally came, courtesy Michael Helegbe, with a well taken penalty in the 83rd minute.
Zecso continued thier pursuit of what could have been an important away goal, but were met by an impressive Muntari Tagoe who pulled off an excellent stop.
Medeama will go into the second leg at the Levy Patrick Mwanawasa stadium next week, confident of qualifying to the next stage of the competition.
