Ghana defender John Mensah has denied media reports that his early substitution in last weekends' league game against Trencin in the Corgon Liga.
Mensah featured for his new side for less than 15 minutes when they hosted Lombard Papa – a situation which has been misconstrued as the player picking up fresh injury.
The former Ghana skipper told Daily Guide in an interview that Nitra manager Ladislav Hudec decided to rest him for this weekend’s crucial duel against Spartak Myjava, hence his early exit from the game.
“It is not true that I was replaced due to injury. We have a crucial game this Saturday at home and my coach told me to watch the rest of the game from the bench.
“So far, it’s been good. We are hoping to win this Saturday to make our fans happy. I have been training with the team and hoping to gain first team shirt,” he said.
He said he was coping in the Slovakian Super Liga and will hit top gear pretty soon.
The former Sunderland defender joined the Slovakian side last month after months of inactivity due to injury.
Meanwhile, national team mate Kwadwo Asamoah has expressed delight over the defender’s probable comeback to the Black Stars for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
