In spite of its woeful actions in recent times, the Ministry of youth and Sports still seems to be bent on blowing Ghana’s cash on needless exercises.

The latest frolic from the ministry is its decision to blow tens of thousands of dollars on another talk shop to promote on a ‘retreat’ on Ghana’s ailing sports industry.

This is in spite of the fact that the ministry and all the allied agencies under it have developed plans and budgets which are currently on the books, and which has seen woeful lack of implementation.

A press release dated 8th September, 2014, from the Sports Ministry, signed by Michael Frimpong, Head, Public Relations, has announced that the Ministry in collaboration with the National Sports Authority (NSA) is organizing a two-day retreat of Eminent Sports Administrators/Personalities at the Best Western Hotel, Airport Residential Area, Accra, from Wednesday, 10th September, 2014 to Thursday, 11th September, 2014 at 10:00 am.

The release said that discussions will be centered on a review of the state of sports disciplines in Ghana and advising on the development of a national strategy to revive the disciplines as well as hold discussions on the draft national Sports Bill, 2014.

The first day of the retreat, according to the Ministry, will be to evaluate the entire national situation from the grassroots to the international level and advise Government on the way forward, whilst the second day would be devoted to the validation of the revised Sports Bill.

Three (3) Sub-Committees, namely, Technical & Infrastructure Development; Discipline Administration & Team management; and Finance, Sponsorship & Marketing will deliberate on these sectors.

The Ministry claimed that it desires to tap into the ‘rich experience’ of ‘these eminent sports personalities’ and ‘administrators’ to review the state of sports organization and administration in Ghana and wish to assure all Ghanaians that it is fully committed to the promotion and development of all sporting disciplines in the country.
