Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah, will be sacked if he fails to beat Togo tomorrow, according to sources who have spoken to Citi Sports.
Ghana must win against Togo to maintain any control of their Afcon 2015 qualifying group, following a poor showing at the weekend against Uganda in Kumasi.
The public approval ratings of the Ghana coach is low after what some sports analysts described as “high profile” failures in the last African Cup and at the world cup in Brazil. This led to swift moves by the Ghana FA to scout for a technical adviser to assist the “embattled” Appiah.
Monday night saw the touchdown of the hugely popular Milovan Rajevac, who led the team to its hightest international football achievement in the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup.
Though we can confirm the presence of Milovan has the backing of some key GFA officials, it is however not clear why exactly he has been asked to be around.
Appiah is aware of these goings-on, but his remarkable calmness stems from the fact that he has also lost confidence in the trust of his employers, who he feels have not done enough to hold the team together.
Appiah has a running two year contract with the Ghana Football Association which was agreed sometime before the World Cup.
Should the former Ghana captain be, indeed, axed the GFA will have to pay a hefty severance package. Citi Sports understands that they are willing to do so.
