Lawyer for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Thaddeus Sory yesterday demonstrated brilliance in defence of seven of his clients when the world Cup Commission resumed sitting after a five-day break.

The seven witnesses rep-resenting the heads of the var-ious national teams com-prised Fred Crentsil (Black Starlets), George Afriyie (Black Satellites), M.N.S. Doe (Black Meteors), Fred Pappoe (Local Black Stars), Osei Tutu Agyemang (Black Princesses), Adam Munkaila (Black Queens) and Augustine Asante (Black Maidens).

They appeared before the World Cup Commission probing the Brazil Brouhaha to tell Justice Senyo Dzamefe and his team of commissioners how they fund the various national teams and its problems.

But the sitting, which began on a cool note, assumed a heated dimension when counsel for the witnesses insisted that his clients were accorded their rights.

Counsel Thaddeus Sory told said his clients were not given enough notice to appear before the Commission and also inquired whether or not they were targeted witnesses.

His insistence on his clients’ rights which resulted in a heated debate compelled the commission to take a temporary break.

And on resumption, the commission admitted that Lawyer Sory was right in his argument. “I enjoyed the academic exercise, it was good. Lawyer Sory you are intelligent.

The Commission could have also insisted to proceed based on its powers to modify the counsel’s request according to Rule 23.”

As a result, the commission applied Rule 9 of CI 65 which gives the witness a grace period of eight days to reappear from the day it was served the invitation.

The commission therefore directed that the witnesses reappear this Friday.

Today, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports will face the Commission, while Coach Kwesi Appiah and former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah take their turn tomorrow.
