Former Black Stars defender, Sam Johnson, has ruled out the possibility of the Ghana Football Association naming Maxwell Konadu as the next coach to succeed Kwesi Appiah.
Reports in the local media suggest Konadu, who has been appointed as the interim coach for the stars, is likely to be named as the next substantive coach if he qualifies the team to the 2015 AFCON.
Although 32 coaches are in the hunt for the vacant job, local pundits say with Konadu’s vast experience since his appointment in 2012, and the success he chalked with the CHAN team, makes him favorite among the rest.
But Samuel Johnson, who played in four African Cup of Nations for the Black Stars, thinks the circumstances that necessitated the sacking of Kwesi Appiah, will not encourage any local coach to want the job as the next Black Stars coach.
“I personally feel that no local coach will be given the job, taking from the fact and the circumstances that led to the sacking of Kwesi Appiah. So, I don’t see why the GFA will name Konadu as the substantive coach for the team”.
“I’m told a lot of foreign coaches have applied for the job, I’m not surprised at all, because that is what some of the big men at the FA want. They want the whites not our own so how can we say that Maxwell will get the job?”
“He has been given two matches, not as the substantive coach, but a stop gap. I have heard people say if he wins the two matches he will be given the job, I will say it again, that, no local coach will be given the job by the GFA.”
