The Founder and General Overseer of the Christian Action Faith Ministries, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams has said, Ghanaians must pray for the safety of the Black Stars and Ghanaian soccer fans in Equatorial Guinea.
His request came after host, Equatorial Guinea’s Africa Cup of Nations dream came to a disappointing end amid more shameful scenes in Malabo on Thursday night when they played Ghana.
Notwithstanding their enthusiastic support from the commencement of the tournament and performing footballing miracles with the help of some referees to reach the semi-finals, Equatorial Guinea lost their Semi-Final match but their fans showed an uglier side by throwing objects at Ghana’s players, staff and fans, causing the game to be stopped for more than thirty minutes.
The Black Stars however managed to beat the host nation by three goals to nil [3-0] to book a place to face the Ivory Coast in the final match which will be played at the Bata Stadium on Sunday.
But many soccer commentators believe Ghana is not “safe” in Equatorial Guinea after yesterday’s incident.
However, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams has congratulated the team for their qualification to the final but insisted that, prayers can assure the safety of the team and supporters.
“Congratulations to the boys in advance, we pray for safety and order on the park,” he said.
He posted on his facebook wall.
