The Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye has disclosed that the ministry had to borrow money from a forex bureau to settle the per diem of the national female Under 17 team, Black Maidens.
Following their exploits in the just ended FIFA Under 17 female World Cup, it was reported that the players and handlers of the team were owed $2,800 in per diems.
The Sports Ministry couldn’t pay the money to the team on arrival because a court order froze the account of the team due to an unsettled debt.
The Maidens, however, received $1,000 of the total amount last week.
Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Nhyira FM, the controversial government appointee revealed that “we borrowed money from a forex bureau to settle both the playing body and the management committee. The players took $1000 each while the management committee had $1,700 each”.
The revelation that the management committee members got their share of the money comes as a huge surprise to many after it was widely reported that none of the members received a dime from the Ministry.
But Nii Lante says ” I will be surprised if any management committee member comes out to say that he/she did not receive any money”.
The Minister further disclosed that due to the demands of the constitution that govern the country, his outfit would be unable to pay the rest of the money in cash.
He, however, told the management committee to inform the ladies to open accounts with the consent of their parents as it was done when their male counterparts won the trophy in 1991.

WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON WITH MINE BELOVED COUNTRY CALLED GHANA!!!!!!!!!; SO TODAY NO INSTITUTION CAN RAISE ENOUGH CASH TO PAY FOR OUR LADY FOOTBALLERS ;WHAT A DISGRACE !!!!!!!!!!!; THIS IS ANOTHER 'NOKOFIO' because it is likely the amount quoted and received from the Forex bureax will be inflated besides it was this same Forex called the ' BLACK MARKET' who some years back when JJ Rawlings the founder of the NDC party beat these forex bureau at Zongo lane and ordered them to drink the gutter water ; today his party is going begging for cash from them
But NDC has so many times denied that Ghana is not broke so this means its all lies and beginning to think Bawumiah was telling the truth that Ghana is indeed broke. Where in the world does a whole sports ministry take a loan to support a national team. NDC is a scam and fraudulent political party.
Who cares if you, because of tribal politics, vote for these ***barred word*** to rule Ghana for another 4 years. I bless my GOD that I am living in USA with my family. No doubt that white man calls us 'black Monkeys.' Disaster upon disaster, calamity upon calamity, failure upon failure are befalling Ghana, yet some tribes are routing for Mahama. Who cares about your foolhardy. After all, you are facing the same hardships.
Am sorry!
Concert party NDC govt led by the confused John Mahama. What are you guys doing with our taxes? You are possessed with borrowing money to consume.... V1s1onllesss govt....
And you have the effrontery to tell the whole world that you borrowed money from a Forex bureau to pay players on a national assignment. wasn't it the same Ministry that flew 3 Million Dollars from Accra to Brazil. You guys are just an embarrassment to Ghananians. The quicker you leave office the better.
