Aduana Stars needed a second half penalty to beat ES Setif 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon in their 2018 CAF Champions League final qualifying round first leg tie.
Midfielder Sam Adams converted from 12 yards to hand the Ghanaian champions first leg advantage.
As early as the ninth minute, Noah Martey brought down and Aduana win a free kick in a good position but that was wasted. Before the half-hour mark, the first real attempt on goal was recorded after some nice foot work from Mumuni Zakaria but striker Bright Adjei shot wide.
Three minutes into the second half, Bright Adjei squandered a glorious opportunity after two good chances muffed up in the first half.
Aduana survived a scare in injury time when Hamza Banouh shot feebly into the hands of the goalkeeper with only Joseph Addo to beat.
The Fire Boys must hold on to the slender advantage in the return leg next week.
