Former Black Stars midfielder, Sulley Ali Muntari, has asked government to expedite action on the proposed reforms in Ghana football, which is expected to give way to the continuation of the Ghana Premier League (GPL), after the "Anas Aremeyaw Number 12 Expose".
He said, the halt of the premier league was having serious effects on participating teams and players, adding that “all of them are home and their talents not being used”.
Muntari, who spoke in an interview with the GNA Sports said, with all that talent wasting at home, how could Ghana build and groom players for the future of the country.
He however said, he understood government’s need to take its time with the reforms, since it would lead to improvements of the "crippled" Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Muntari said, clubs were losing money with the suspension of the league, citing Aduana Stars, who was playing in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup and needed the league for match fitness.
He commended Medeama FC and Aduana Stars for being the country’s top sides in Africa for the past two years and urged government to see to the resumption of the league to keep improving.
Currently with local football in disarray, national teams participating in international competitions, however still get to play in their respective competitions because of a two-man liaison team set up by government to see to it that such clubs get the needed support.
