Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says he owes no one explanations for his call-ups for the national team, the Black Stars.
The 58-year old gaffer has been faced with opprobium from the public following his last call-up for the West African powerhouse's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya.
The likes of captain Asamoah Gyan and the Ayew brothers, Andre and Jordan, were all dropped from the squad as they lost 1-0 to the Harambee Stars last Saturday.
However, Kwesi Appiah disagrees and believes every player he calls deserves a place in his team.
“I hear some of my colleagues all the time saying I need to explain my call-ups. Ghana has got thousands of players,” he told Ghanaweb.
“There are so many players on my data, so much so that I can sit here and call about five different teams. And that is excluding the local based players.
“There are so many players, so if I’m going to explain why a player is not playing every time we have a match, how can I explain that?
“I believe that if I should even explain, then it should be to fellow technical people who will understand.”
The Black Stars’ next game is a 2019 AFCON qualifying doubleheader against Sierra Leone in October.

I think he should rather think twice and know that there are a lot of people that he's accountable to. Anytime things are not going right, he must be ready to answer to the possible causes to find a lasting solutions. One of his greatest problems is that Ghana is blessed with the talent. This rather gives him the problem of assembling the best ones to bring out results. I pity him doing trying and error with our players, the team and hence the country. it will rather be more difficult for Ghana to win any trophy under Kwesi Appiah than ever. He belongs to one of the junior teams rather than wasting our time. The earlier he leaves, the better.
This guy who can not coach any team to win anything look at him making such an arrogant statement. Who does he think he is. Until we get this incompetent guy calling himself a coach out of the black Stars we can never win anything. Why is he even still at post when his pay master has been caught pants down taking bribe. If this country is really serious we can never have such a guy as our national coach. Apuu tor
ghanians can talk where did this thing come from talking with no practical solutions aaba.because of democracy all kinds of people are spewing trash
I don't think Akwesi Appiah will say that?.
This village sense of impunity, entitlement and unaccountability is what has brought us thus far!!! The NATIONAL TEAM belongs to us!!! We need to know how you run it with our TAXES!!! DAFT!!!
must he always come out and explain why he call players? for those of you saying he is failing, u don't understand football. u're talking any how probably u think he didn't call ur players. he has played two matches and Ghana is on top of the table; where lies the failure. those who played in Kenya were the same players who beat Congo 5 on their own soil and so why should people think that he didn't call best players. don't bring any arrogant and I won't play kind of players into the team again.
Did he really say that.....?
And no one owes you explanation when you get fired. You lack tactical discipline. Nothing to offer.
If this is how he is going to behave then he she’d be careful. That he owes no one any explanation who he calls up to the national team. He has a weak brain that’s why he says that. Does he pay himself.. We as tax payers pays him so he she’d think properly before he comes out to talk. No doubt he is failing. The next minute the excuse is that it was ill-luck dats y we couldn’t beat the Kenyans. It’s a reflection dat he is not good at all. He is still experimenting with the national team. If so we should forget abt aAfcon 2019. U wait very soon we shall start doing some calculations ie oh wen this team loses n we win n we meet them at home n we win we shall qualify. We are not serious at all. We she call him to order n be serious.
You talk as if you pay yourself. i dont blame you. Such a clueless coach!!! Your facial expression on the touch line alone kills the spirit of our players. aahh
