Ghana's representatives to the 2018/19 CAF Confederation Cup, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, have advanced to the one-sixteenth stage of the competition without kicking a ball.
This follows a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to cancel the first round match involving Kotoko after the Cameroun Football Federation (FECAFOOT) had failed to submit its representative before the deadline.
In a tweet on Saturday, November 24, CAF said, "Matches #37&38 are cancelled because the deadline for FECAFOOTOffice [Cameroun Football Federation] to confirm the engagement of second rep. For Total CAF Confederation Cup has elapsed. Asante Kotoko is therefore qualified to the 1/16th round."
Kotoko were scheduled to meet an opponent from Cameroun in a first round first leg at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Wednesday, November 28.
The Ghanaian side moved to camp at Mampong in the Ashanti Region this week to finalise preparations for the supposed match.
This followed a 10-day intensive camping at Takoradi in the Western Region a fortnight ago.
Kotoko are the only Ghanaian team participating in the CAF Inter-club competitions for 2018/19.
