Black Stars striker and captain, Asamoah Gyan has rescinded his earlier decision to permanently retire from the national team.
"A presidential request is one that cannot be disregarded," he posted on his twitter page Wednesday morning.
A statement he signed indicated that “I have had the opportunity to speak with the father of the nation, the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who, though respecting my wishes as spelt in my letter of 20th May 2019, has asked me to rescind my decision to retire permanently from the Black Stars.
"I have taken the request of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in good faith and will make myself available for selection by coach Kwasi Appiah.
"My desire to help Ghana end the over three-decade-long wait to annex the AFCON trophy still burns strong and I remain committed to serving this great nation and the people of Ghana".
Eugene Arhin, Director of Communication at the Presidency confirmed a telephone interview between Asamoah Gyan and the President in a post on Facebook.
According to him, the President had asked the player to return to the team for the sake of unity and peace.
In a post on Facebook, Eugene Arhin said "The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, this afternoon, held a meeting with the Minister for Youth and Sports, the President of the GFA Normalisation Committee, and the Chair of the Management Committee of the Senior National Football Team, the Black Stars.
The meeting, a continuation of the regular meetings the President holds with them, discussed, amongst others, the preparations being made towards AFCON 2019, and how to end Ghana’s AFCON trophy drought.
President Akufo-Addo, subsequently, also spoke on the telephone with Asamoah Gyan, and informed him of the considerable national disquiet over his decision to retire from the Black Stars.
The President urged him, in the national interest, to rescind his decision to retire from the Black Stars, and make himself available for selection by Coach Kwasi Appiah".

Just help me with the sacrifice Gyan has made for the Black Star and I will give you a thousand the blackstar has made for him. please stop this ill-mannered demi god worshiping
In fact, I feel sad when I see or hear some fellow Ghanaians expressing gross ingratitude to other fellow Ghanaians who have made Ghana proud in their dedication to duty for the sake of the Nation. Instead, the achiever rather becomes a target of insults of all dimensions, bastardization and all that. I begin to wonder what sort of people do we have as Ghanaians in Ghana. Asamoah Gyan has taken the Black Stars of Ghana very far as captain and has been the highest goal scorer in the team. The President of the Republic knows his exploits and therefore appreciates him(Asamoah Gyan). Our President must be commended as a true father and a unifier, requesting the skipper to rescind his decision not to play for the Nation. This must be the posture of fellow Ghanaians to welcome back the skipper instead of bad comments from some people to demonize him. Ghanaians must be objective and learn to appreciate people who sacrifice themselves for our sake and the good of Ghana.
the problem with him is Gyan has the sense of entitlement of the captaincy. See how he has embossed his image on the band, he sees it as his personal property. i don't blame him
upon him not playing regularly, he's better than most of the players. but we need to be very careful about the way we talk to players especially when they're getting closer to their retirement. the whites don't do that. Ghanaians are very ungrateful.
Admitting this pompous and morally bankrupt guy(even questions paternity of his own children because he was screwing a ***barred word*** of international repute!)back into the Blackstars will be the most unwise decision of kwasi appiah and will definitely see Ghana exit the tourney in the group stage: watch it! It is the very nature of football for old players to move on and new ones take their place.
Ghana cannot win one match if asamoah plays
But Gyan is not destined to play for the Blackstar forever. Others must exit for others to come on board. He has paid his dues to mother Ghana. Gyan has been a very good asset but better assets are marking time to prove their worth. That is the essence of life.
So this will bring national unity by finding the 3 girls wouldn't? Is that why you said ABOSULUTELY NOTHING ALMOST A MONTH INTO THEIR DISAPPEARANCE? Mr president, father of some people in the nation definitely not all.
***barred word*** aaa kwaa. dont you think you rather went there to get him to influence Kwasi Appiah to include you in the team though you are out of your prime and cannot play. In this case the president is needlessly interfering with soccer . totally unnecessary
Go and make ghana proud.
