Barely two days after saying I do, a newlywed couple at Ashaiman VALCO Flat have been burgled and robbed of their expensive jewels, properties and several hundreds of cedis donated on their wedding day.
So unsympathetic were the thieves that they did not spare emptying the couples Jollof rice they had preserved in their fridge.
Narrating the incident to The Finder newspaper, Mr. Nelson Awuah, the groom, said at about 8pm last Monday, he and his bride, Mrs. Beatrice Awuah, lay on a mat on the floor of their room enveloping money owed their creditors.
He recalled that he and his wife had enveloped a total of GH1,500, with hundreds of cedis yet to be sealed, when they unexpectedly fell into a deep sleep.
Mr. Awuah said about 12 midnight urine woke him up and surprisingly, the first thing my eyes sighted was that my door had been opened ajar. I moved towards the door only to see a pinch bar, one of the metallic hooks for holding cooking pots when preparing banku and a small knife on the entrance.
He said he walked towards the main gate of the compound house, where he again realized that the gate had been left widely open.
I remembered my wife and I were putting money into envelopes and so I quickly rushed into my room. In fact, the thieves made away with the money and three cell phones. They did not spare us the Jollof rice my wife kept in the fridge, the groom recounted.
Awuah said he later woke his wife, who was still deeply asleep, to tell her of their woes.
He said they kept wake till the morning when he and the wife reported the incident to their landlord and later to the police and their parents.
He said they only moved into the house on their wedding day, March 16.
