Condone, Connive, Steal And Share Booty

The Almighty God of Israel works in mysterious ways. Unlike the son of man, He gives people a very long rope to hang themselves. President Mills and his cohorts thought Ghanaians were fools when they set out on an evil agenda to milk the country dry. Unknown to them, the people of this country had wised up. The days when magicians like Professor Hindu (Krofasa Hindu) mesmerized us with magical prowess are gone with the wind. Today, no magician can convince us that he can turn gravels into cooked rice. Anytime the Mills administration tries anything funny, we easily find out the truth and yet they continue to refuse to bow down their heads in shame. There is nowhere to hide as the people continue to open their eyes and ears. Before this government came to power, the leadership of the political party on which they rode to power disturbed our ears with noises about corruption being committed by officials of the NPP. The founder of the NDC, Mr. Rawlings, told us that the Nsawam Maximum Prison needed to be expanded to accommodate perceived corrupt officials of the NPP. Rawlings was cocksure that the Kufuor administration was corrupt and that when the NDC held the reins of power, all those found to be corrupt would be jailed. Barely 10 months to the end of the Mills administration, not a single NPP minister has been jailed. Indeed, 10 months to the end of his four-year term as the president of Ghana, officials of the NDC, from MMDCEs to ministers of state are all covered with corruption. National, regional and constituency officers of the ruling NDC are basking in ill-gotten wealth and erecting huge mansions to the annoyance of foot-soldiers (or fooled soldiers?) and the common man on the street who used to live with them. Suddenly, these shameless men and women of straw have turned Epicurean and riding flashy cars. Mills is not made aware of what is happening because all the MMDCEs have their godfathers and sometimes godmothers who are paid protection money. Talking about godmothers reminds me of the wife of the Vice President who hails from the Brong Ahafo region. There are some MMDCEs in this particular region who lobbied, through the Second Lady, to get nominated by the president. These guys are always quick to tell whosoever cares to listen that as far as the Second Lady is alive no one can touch them. The Muntaka Kyikyinga, the Ayariga Tractors, the Ayariga $44 million Atlas palaver, the naked looting of funds by MMDCEs, inflation of contract sums by MMDCEs and many more corrupt practices by government officials have exposed the regime as the most corrupt in the annals of the political history of this nation. Today, Mills the pious has lost all the moral right to accuse anybody of being corrupt as he used to do in the run-up to the 2008 general elections. What has broken the back of the camel is the Woyome rip-off and the Construction Pioneers loot in the name of judgment debts. The whole issue looks like you take it in your name and meet me somewhere to share the loot. Maame Asidaa, gye na hyia me afikyire na yenkye (Maame Asidaa collect it and meet me at the backyard for us to share). At least Ernest Owusu-Bempa of FONKAR has spilt the beans that Maame Asidaa Naadu collected five million dollars as her share of the judgment debt. Any court action to redeem her tainted image? We are waiting else silence will be taken to mean concern. When Herbert Mensah, a friend of the Rawlingses broke the news that he had listened to a tape recording on which a budget of GH90 million was to be used to sponsor Mills election bid at Sunyani, the president vehemently denied the story. At the end of the day, a huge sum of money was used to bribe delegates to get Atta Mills endorsed at the congress. Alfred Agbesi Woyome was seen at the Sunyani Coronation Park, seeing to it that money was not the problem. Because the Rawlingses did not have such huge sums of money, all that the old man did was to share waakye to the delegates. As compared to the four GH4000.00 they received from the NDC bankroller through the MMDCEs, the delegates were swayed to vote massively for President Mills. And when Madam Rawlings decided to go round to thank the few delegates who gave her the nod, Mills released his muscle men to cow her down. Now that the chickens have come home to roost, Nana Konadu and her husband have been vindicated. Nobody can convince me that Rawlings knows nothing about the Martin Amidu show. Martin is a dyed-in-the-wool cadre who served Rawlings and the 31st December Revolution with all his mind and heart. He might have discussed the gargantuan crime with Rawlings, who might have told him to go to town with the news. When people like Betty Mould-Iddrisu, who had the guts to tell the world that no one could boast of being the founder of the NDC, you can easily guess how elated Rawlings was when Martin let the cat out of the bag. Under normal circumstances, you do not expect a whole Attorney General and Minister of Justice who is supposed to be the governments legal brain to go public with such a sensitive issue like the Woyomegate scandal. Such issues are discussed at cabinet levels and a decision taken as to how to go about things. For Martin, the Citizen Vigilante, to snub cabinet and spill the beans and thereafter get sacked after boasting that he was not afraid to get out, then my brother, the umbrella is leaking. But come to think of this, have you taken note of Rawlings silence as far as the Woyome rip-off is concerned. The man has totally refused to comment on the issue to the surprise of everybody. Or maybe he is reserving his strength to strike at the appropriate time. In my holy village, when something serious happens and the old men refuse to comment on it, it is seen as a bad omen. In such circumstances, we consult the oracle. The time has come for Ghanaians to remove their political spectacles and join hands to help the president to rein in his corrupt officials. We have to appreciate the fact that the president is not in full control. Our collective wealth is being squandered by a few greedy bastards while the president sits in the Castle drinking tea. Today in Ghana, MMDCEs have turned themselves into contractors. They collude with so-called consultants to inflate contract sums and share with them. In order to keep away prying eyes, these MMDCEs exchange contracts with their counterparts in their regions. The Wenchi MCE for example will grab a contract from Nkoranza district, while the MCE of Nkoranza will also get one from Wenchi. In some cases, they simply sell the contracts to the highest bidder. The situation is too worrisome. What is most disturbing is that these contractors who pay so much to get the contract turn out to do shoddy works to the detriment of beneficiary communities. It is all about scratch my back and I scratch your back. Within these three years, the MMDCEs have become so fabulously rich that people begin to ask whether nobody is in control. And yet these are the same people who do not hesitate to tell Ghanaians that the country is broke. For now, they can continue to condone, connive and loot the state coffers but surely, the days of reckoning when they would be called to account for their stewardship are beckoning. Time will tell!!!
