Kalvary Pip Garrison To Lift Greater Accra Milo JBC

Kalvary Preparatory and Junior High school put up a plucky performance to win the 2012 Greater Accra Milo Junior Ball on Saturday March 17 following a nerve-racking final against highly-fancied Garrison Basic School. The highly pretentious school didnt look like a side that could cause an upset in the one-day competition following their opening 22-20 defeat to Ridge Church School. But with a vociferous support from their school-mates, Kalvary found their rhythm in the second game to beat Cosmos International School 23-13 to ease the pressure on their coach and give themselves a lifeline in a highly explosive competition held at the El-wak stadium. Not even a light downpour could deter the thousands of fans who had thronged the venue to catch a glimpse of huge talents on display and many were not disappointed. Perhaps Kalvarys quarter-final victory over champions Air Force Basic School re-ignited their confidence and opted them to give off their best in the remaining two matches to realize their dream of clinching the trophy for the first time in the schools history. Many did not see it coming until the buzzer sounded to send their fans into spontaneous jubilation following their 20-18 success over the defending champions. They followed suit with another defensive performance against Ghana Lebanon and Islamic School (GLISS) at the semi-final stage- beating the capital based school 24-19 in a closely contested game. In the final game, Kalvary adopted an all defensive and all-offensive tactics and that worked to perfection as they beat the high-scoring Garrison 15-14 to lift the cup. Celebration went into the night as folks of Teshie were thrown into a state of glee. Meanwhile the four semi-finalists have qualified for the grand-finale slated for the El-Wak stadium on April 13, 2012. Also, Garrison Basic School took over the baton from SOS as they emerged champions in the Choreography competition with 2010 champions Cosmos placing second while SOS managed a third place finish in the finals. Air force, Cosmos, BOD and Garrison also participated in the Rap competition The 2012 Milo Junior Ball is brought to you by Nestle Milo- the food drink of future champions and powered by Rite Multimedia-leaders in basketball development and promotion in Ghana.
