ECG To Intensify Load Shedding Exercise

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has given indications that the current load shedding exercise ongoing in the country would be intensified to include more areas. This according to the ECG's Operations Manager, Tetteh Okine, is to further reduce the excess pressure on the capacity which is serving the entire country. The ECG would be reviewing the current load shedding exercise and indications are that it could be worse with more people and more areas to be included in the exercise. Mr. Okine added that a minimum amount of GhC 700 million is needed to fix the ECG's problems, especially those having to do with operations and distribution. He said an estimated one to two billion Ghana cedis was needed some three years ago for the same operations, but has been reduced to GhC700 m because there has been some commitment from the side of government in fixing the problem.
