The chiefs and people of Tegbi in the Keta Municipality have held a well-attended fund raising durbar on Saturday as part of the Easter festivities in aid of a community Information Communications and Technology (ICT) centre.
The centre, when completed, would serve the many schools in the town and make pupils computer literate.
The durbar, an annual affair that always draws to the town its sons and daughters from all corners of the country, brought to the fore problems of the farming and fishing town and efforts of the chiefs and people at tackling them.
Addressing the people the Dufia of Tegbi, Togbi Gawu V, appealed to his people to be guided by the principles of probity and accountability in their resource mobilization drive for the development of the town.
He lauded the efforts of his people to build an ICT centre and told them not to relent in their efforts since information technology is now the most viable vehicle for transforming society.
The Chairman of the Tegbi Zonal Council, Mr Francis Amekudzi, said the town had over the years initiated development projects with support from the Keta Municipal Assembly, the government, DANIDA and some individuals.
He said through Citizens� Development Levy, Fishing Companies Levy and monthly communal labour, the town built a health centre, post office, zonal council office, nurses� quarters and classroom blocks.
Mr Amekudzi told the people that plans had been drawn up to reshape roads in the town with support from the government, extend electricity and pipe borne water to areas that had not been served and an ICT centre to serve schools in the community.
He said the town�s Premix Committee released 5,000 Ghana cedis to facilitate work on the ICT centre.
The National Chairman of theTegbi Welfare Union, Mr Obilly Djirackor, said he was confident that with support from the people, challenges facing Tegbi could be overcome and gave the assurance that every contribution that would be made would be accounted for.
The Member of Parliament for Anlo, Mr Clement Kofi Humado, donated 20 laptop computers to Afedome Junior High School. Mr Gandhi Mawuenyegah , a citizen of the town, promised to support the construction of the ICT centre. Some pupils from schools in the town were also awarded for their academic performance and discipline.
An appeal for funds in aid of the ICT centre yielded 6,261 Ghana cedis.
