A businessman is threatening to take legal action against government to retrieve his money for work done in providing accommodation to Ghanaian football fans in South Africa during the 2010 World Cup. Charles Asante claims he provided accommodation for the fans and fed them while they were in South Africa to support the Black Stars. He told Adom News that a bill totaling $150,000 was submitted to the Ghana High Commission in South Africa but government paid only $100,000, and had refused to pay the remaining $50,000. He insists that despite the pressure mounted on government to retrieve the money, Government had been adamant, failing to respond to his demands for the past two years. Mr. Asante disclosed that he is in the process of assembling his team of legal experts to sue government, adding that he will not allow his investments to go waste. He has therefore asked the president to personally intervene in the matter to ensure payment is made. However government is challenging Mr. Asante to prove his claim that the government owed him any amount of money. Immediate past Ambassador to South Africa who is now Education Minister, Lee Ocran denied claims made by Mr. Asante adding that as far as his outfit was concerned, every payment due Mr. Asante had been settled.
