UPDATE: Ken Still In Custody As NPP Members Swarm Police Headquarters

Scores of activists belonging to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have besieged the Police Headquarters in Accra demanding the release of outspoken Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong. The lawmaker is being investigated by the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for making some treasonable comments last week on his radio station, Oman FM. It is unclear if he will be released or spend the night in CID cells, but what peacefmonline.com can confirm is that the NPP firebrand reported to the Police on Monday morning based on an invitation he received from them (Police). The Assin North MP, in anger at the assault meted out to Ursula Owusu, the party's Ablekuma South Parliamentary Candidate at Tarzan, a registration centre in Odododiodoo, declared "war" and vowed to lynch any "fake" security operative in the upcoming December polls. "I said this in Mantse Agbona, if you dress up anybody in fake security outfit and present him, we will lynch him. This is war and I am telling Gbvelo Lartey that the war starts from now. Yes! I declare war today," Ken Agyapong said on OmanFM. Lawyer for the MP, Mr. Atta Akyea told the media that according to the Police CID, the comments made by his client are treasonable which could also incite a section of the public to cause chaos ahead of the December polls. Meanwhile, peacefmonline can confirm that the atmosphere at the police headquarters is tense as hundreds of charged NPP members are bent on laying their life for the NPP MP. They have resorted to chanting war-like songs and screaming for his release. The action by the crowd is premised on alleged reports that the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) is planning to arrest the MP once the police sets him free. The anti-riot police squad has also readied itself for any eventuality. More soon...
