NPPs Yaw Buabeng Asamoah Still In CID Grip

The deputy Director of Communications of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, is still in the custody of the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Mr. Asamoah was arrested with a number of opposition aficionados by the police on Monday evening following chaos at various security installations in the capital, Accra, which include the Police Headquarters, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and the Bureau of National Investigations. The supporters had pitched camp outside the heavily guarded Police Headquarters in Accra to demand the release of arrested NPP MP for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong. The legislator spent Monday night in BNI cells over comments he made on his own radio station, Oman FM, the police believe could lead to treason charges. Hon. Agyapong in his statement (attached above) called on Akans to declare war on Ewes and Gas in the country in a bid to express his dissatisfaction over violence that has characterised the ongoing biometric registration exercise. Reasons for Mr. Asamoahs arrest are unclear, however, unconfirmed information being picked up by Citifmonline.com has it that he might have been detained for inflaming passion against the security agents. His lawyers are currently at the Police Headquarters in a frantic effort to secure his release.
