Jake Obetsebi Lamptey: I Doubt If Ken Agyapong Will Be Released

The National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, says the fate of detained MP for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong is unknown after a meeting with the CID boss, DCOP Prosper Agblor failed to yield a positive result. Some NPP stalwarts, including Mahamadu Bawumia running mate to NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr. Konadu Apraku, Manhyia MP Mathew Opoku Prempeh, former Defence Minister Addo Kufuor, among others who besieged the Police headquarters to demand the MP�s release said it is unlikely Kennedy Agyapong will be released today. Speaking to XYZ News after the meeting with the CID boss, Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey said it is likely the outspoken lawmaker will spend another night in BNI cells. He disclosed that the leadership of the party failed to convince the CID boss to release Mr. Agyapong on bail. Mr Agyapong was picked up on Monday and interrogated for making statements described by the Police CID as treasonable on his radio station, Oman FM. Meanwhile, one of the lawyers for Mr. Agyapong, Atta Akyea who described his client's comments as inflammatory has told XYZ News that he has been frustrated in his efforts to meet with his Mr Agyapong today. According to him, all efforts to reach his client have proved futile. The leadership of the NPP have also stated that they would corporate with Police to ensure that Mr. Agyapong is released.
