CPP Picks Flagbearer On Saturday

Chairman of the Convention Peoples Party Samia Yaaba Nkrumah has said that the party has settled on Saturday May 12 to elect the parties flagbearer for the 2012 elections. Two persons are vying for the position - 2008 vice presidential candidate Dr. Abu Sakara and legal practitioner Bright Akwetey. Speaking on Accra based Joy Fm, Samia Nkrumah debunked assertions that choosing a flagbearer with just about 7 months to go for the general elections is too late. She further indicated that it is actually a better time because the candidate during his campaigning would be fresh on the minds of voters. About 2,000 delegates are expected to throng the Essipong in the Western region for the congress. According to Samia the two candidates are capable men, they are competent men, they have served the party well and I am sure they will serve Ghana well. The CPP has postponed the elections of its presidential candidate for over three times. There were speculations that the 2008 flagbearer of the party Dr. Papa Kwesi Ndoum resigned due to the unexplained delays in choosing the flagbearer for the party, a move that some political pundits have described as crippling for the CPP.
