Ghanaian Muslims Condemn Hate Speech

The Muslim Coalition for Reformation has cautioned politicians against making inflammatory speeches that are likely to create inter-religious conflict in Ghana ahead of the December elections. The Coalition noted with deep concern the utterances of some politicians in the country that are likely to spring up the ethnic and religious conflict in the country. Spokesperson for the Muslim Coalition for Reformation, Anwar Sadat addressed the media in Accra where he condemned the NDC Parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso Central, William Affum Ani Adjei over his alleged comments against Ghanaian Muslims. According to him, William Affum on Sunday April 8, 2012 at an Easter convention of the Christ Apostolic Church at Pig Farm blackmailed and denigrated Islam. Instead of preaching peace he created the impression that the leadership of the Islamic community in Ghana surreptitiously met and hatched a plan to annex Africa to Saudi Arabia, he recalled. Anwar Sadat added, In furtherance of their agenda they are offering scholarships and quotas to their children and institutions thereby pushing all of us towards a certain direction where they would take decisions for us by way of legislation. Apart from demanding an unqualified apology from William Affum, the Coalition also declared its intention to petition the Organization of Islamic Countries through the Saudi Embassy. He further impressed upon the Christian Council of Ghana, the Ghana Bar Association, the Ghana Journalist Association, Parliament, Muslim Chiefs and other spirited Civil Society Organizations to openly condemn inflammatory speech irrespective of who makes them.
