Govt Urged To Ensure Fairness

The New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for Talensi, Robert Mosore Doameng, has called for the arrest and prosecution of King James Azortiba, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Walewale for allegedly inciting people from Arigu to burn households and barns at Guborigu. He noted that it has been over a month since some loyalists of Mr. Azortiba from the Arigu Community set houses and barns ablaze at Guborigu, stressing that he allegedly led some youth from Arigu in the company of police personnel from Walewale to chase away biometric registration officials who were working at Guborigu on the second day of the exercise. It would be recalled that during the first phase of the biometric registration exercise, registration officials who were registering residents at Guborigu, were chased away from the area to the chagrin of the residents. Later, the situation led to a misunderstanding between Arigu and Guborigu residents because the Arigu people are loyal to the NDC candidate for Walewale. The leadership of Guborigu and residents accused the NDC candidate of inciting the Arigu people to burn houses and barns. But the leadership and residents of Arigu hold different opinions. According to them, but for the intervention of the NDC candidate for Walewale, the situation at the Guborigu Registration Center would have been bad. However, Mr. Robert Mosore Doameng was of the view that the area was peaceful and that the biometric registration exercise went on smoothly on the first day and even half way on the second day when the Walewale NDC candidate came to the area to allegedly incite the Arigu people not to allow the Goborigu people to be registered at Goborigu under the Talensi Constituency. The action of the NDC parliamentary candidate for Walewale led to the misunderstanding that erupted between the people of Arigu and Goborigu, leading to the destruction of buildings, food and other property at the Goborigu side. The Police should have arrested this man for inciting people to foment trouble and cause destruction to property. To date we have not heard anything about King James arrest or asked to help the victims to rebuild their homes. This is not fair, Robert Mosore noted. Mr. Robert Mosore Doameng spoke to DAILY GUIDE after visiting the leadership of Goborigu to assess the situation. He also presented bags of maize and rice to affected persons. According to him, the only way to ensure peace in the country, during and after the December general elections is for government to be fair in dealing with people who flout the law, irrespective of their political allegiance. Consider a situation like this, the person who led the youth to Goborigu which later led to the arson should have been asked to pay for the damages or arrested to serve as deterrent to others. Now if a similar one happens elsewhere by a person belonging to another party, will the treatment be the same or not? Robert Mosore asked.
