The Member of Parliament for the Asawase constituency in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has dismissed reports that he has taken a 17-year-old girl as a second wife. The Daily Guide Newspaper on Monday reported that Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak on Sunday went to the altar for the second time by tying the knot with a 17-year-old Senior High School (SHS) graduate at the forecourt of the Kumasi Central Mosque. The report also added that the former Minister of Youth and Sports paid the bride price of the youngster, Memunatu Abdul Wahab, at her parents� residence at New Zongo, opposite Otec FM in Asawase before the marriage. However, in an interview with Joy FM on Monday, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak condemned Daily Guide�s report describing it as �shameful and gross irresponsibility�. Hon. Muntaka however failed to reveal the age of girl but stated that his second wife is not a minor ant �never 17 years�. According to him, Daily Guide should have made their checks before going ahead with such an unfortunate publication. He however charged the various Child�s Rights activists in the country to investigate the issue and ascertain if his wife is truly 17-years-old as reported. �I am ashamed of Daily Guide and I know the good Lord will deal with Daily Guide�the girl is way above 17 years� He said. Hon. Muntaka however declined to discuss further on the issue stating that it is a private issue and would want to keep it as such.
