The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused Dr. Sekou Nkrumah of betraying his Father, Dr Kwame Nkrumah by joining the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). Propaganda Secretary of the ruling NDC, Richard Quashigah in an interview with XYZ News said he is baffled by Dr Sekou Nkrumah�s decision to join forces with an offshoot of the UP tradition which, according to him attempted to assassinate Dr. Nkrumah. �It doesn�t mean anything to us; Sekou Nkrumah lost his true identity a long time ago� Mr. Quashigah said adding that �isn�t it an irony that the son of Nkrumah today will join a group of people who hold a certain political philosophy which is at variance with what Nkrumah stood for� He asked. But the Chairman of the NPP, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey has welcomed Dr Sekou Nkrumah into the Party and says the NPP doesn�t mind if Dr Sekou Nkrumah points out certain flaws in the party as he did with his former parties CPP and the NDC. �We welcome him, at the end of the day politics is about numbers and so you have to convince people to join you. If we have weaknesses within our thinking, our vision, performance and he (Sekou) points it out that would be good�. Dr Sekou Nkrumah resigned from the NDC with reason that the Mills administration had failed to achieve results and bring about change in the lives of Ghanaians. His resignation followed his dismissal from the National Youth Authority as the acting head. Before joining the NDC, he had been a member of his Father�s CPP. His latest defection has caused some people to question whether he has a principled political ideology. Dr. Nkrumah however told XYZ News that ideology doesn�t matter as far as a particular party is able to bring about change and achieve results. �The NDC had captured the CPP front in 2007 that is why I joined them in 2007 but if the performance is not good enough and not serving the interest of Ghanaians then do we say that we can�t look elsewhere. �If the NPP can do a better job in government running the affairs of this country in creating wealth and jobs then who I am to say that I share a different political ideology�.
