Junior Doctors, House Officers and other medical practitioners at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have threatened a sit down strike if the poor security conditions at the hospital do not improve within the next 24 hours.
The junior doctor blame the death of their colleague on Sunday night on the porous security situation at the facility.
27-year-old Desmond Kabah was found naked on his bed with stab wounds and parts of the skin on his legs peeled off.
The deceased was the son of the Member of Parliament for Chiana Paga, Leo Alowe Kabah.
Presenting a petition to hospital's management about recent happenings at the nation�s premier health facility, the health practitioners who were singing dirges said their action stems from the fact management had failed to execute its promise of providing enough street lights and adequate security.
According to the President of the House Officers at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Vincent Ganu, the fear of the doctors has heightened because they are unable to ascertain the cause of death of their colleague; whether it was an armed robbery attack or serial killing.
He added that the mood of almost all the medical practitioners of the hospital �is that of anger, that of sadness and generally that of mourning,� coupled with the fact that they have not been given any realistic assurance from management of the hospital apart from the verbal ones.
�...we want security at vantage points on each of the flats. We are asking that we engage the services of security experts to assess security needs of residential facilities....Install Street lights on roads and in front of M and N block as well as the roads leading to SSNIT flats. Provision of ID cards for house officers and all security personnel, we would want to have only a one way entry point into the block�.
"...meeting these demands will show a sign of good faith and sensitivity to the safety concerns of your staff. Failure to meet the 24 hour demand will necessitate a sit down from us the house officers until our safety can be guaranteed,� Dr Ganu said.
