NDC Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Wednesday pledged its commitment to the ideals of probity, transparency, accountability and its cherished values and traditions. "The NDC remains anchored to the ideals of probity, transparency and accountability and shall forever stick to its cherished values and traditions," a statement signed by Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, NDC General Secretary, copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, to commemorate the partys 20th anniversary celebration, said. It said: "The NDC will be 20 years next month. The party was born on June 10, 1992 to among others, promote participatory democracy and responsible government in this country. "The formation was conceived with a vision to promote the unity of our dear nation; build on the various facets of anchoring the nations stability, which was secured by the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), the progenitor to the NDC; and above all to provide the needed development by placing our citizens at the centre of every action of leadership." The statement said the NDC since its formation 20 years ago, had strived by and large on the backs of volunteers, who were driven by the spirit of nationalism and patriotism, to make Ghana a place worth living. It noted that many patriots within the party had devoted their energies and lives even at the neglect of their social and economic development. The statement said: "At the peril of their lives, they toiled to put the NDC on the high pedestal it is occupying today and where we hope to keep it for the youth and future generations. "Indeed it is through the efforts of our comrades we ushered in a history of reformation and innovation in the countrys political landscape. The NDC introduced a new brand of political institution, an entirely new force an amalgam of people with varied political ideologies and opinions. This political formation, a novelty has helped transform the countrys socio-economic and political aspirations in the last two decades. "The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party, wishes, on this historic occasion to extend our warmest felicitations and congratulations to the founding fathers, members, supporters and all sympathisers and Ghanaians who have solidly stood behind the Party in pursuit of its aspirations and expectations of nurturing and consolidating democracy in this country". The party wished all party activists, friends and sympathisers a happy 20th anniversary. The programme for the celebration, which would be on the theme: "Two Decades of Unity, Stability and Development," include Muslim prayers on June 8, to be followed by fund raising dinner dance on the same day, rallies at constituencies on June 9, and inter denominational services on June 10.
