Fmr Miss Ghana For MP Brouhaha...NDC Sacks Rebels

The crisis within the Ledzokuku constituency branch of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Greater Accra Region has deepened following the suspension of some executive members of the party. The constituency Executive committee of the party this week handed over suspension to a number of executives who were accused of supporting an independent parliamentary candidate against the official candidate of the NDC, Mrs. Benita Sena Okity Dua. The suspension follows the completion of investigation conducted by the leadership of the constituency, which indicated that such executives were indeed supporting the independent candidate. The suspended executives were accused of inciting the Ga community in the area against the parliamentary candidate who hails from the Volta region but got married to an indigene of Ga. Prominent among the suspended executives members are vice chairman, Ben Ayiku, constituency Organizer Eric Larbi, Deputy Women Organiser, Mary Atswei Laryea, Assemblyman for Sustrunor electoral area, Mr. Eric Anum Okley and some Ward coordinators. A letter signed by the Deputy Constituency secretary George Kwame, said the suspended members have created animosity between the NDC and various groups within the constituency. According to him, the actions of the suspended executives had the potential to destroy the party. Currently, there is a growing division within the NDC in the constituency immediately after the former Miss Ghana Benita Sena Golomeke was declared the winner to represent the constituency after 2012 general elections. Disgruntled members maintained that because the NDC candidate is not an indigene from the Ga community, she is unfit to represent them in parliament. As a result, some leading members of the NDC including some chiefs within the area have vehemently opposed to the candidature of Benita Dua. In their attempt to ensure that an indigene of Ga leads the NDC, some of them have declared their support for Ben Ayiku, suspended vice chairman of the NDC in the constituency. Ben Ayiku who has announced his intention to go as independent candidate with the intention to win the seat for the NDC.
